Who this affects

UK businesses planning for B2B e-invoicing. Nothing is required yet — the mandate is signalled for April 2029 — but the network choice is now settled, which is the decision that unblocks procurement.

The change

In its Tax Update 2026 (Written Ministerial Statement HCWS141, 23 June 2026) the UK government confirmed Peppol as the core interoperability network for the planned mandatory B2B e-invoicing system (mandate from April 2029, decentralised four-corner model), accelerated abolition of the low-value import customs-duty relief by six months to October 2028, and opened a consultation on extending online-marketplace VAT liability to UK-based sellers (closes 18 August 2026).

Proof

core interoperability network announcement The government has announced that the electronic procurement system Peppol will be the core interoperability network for e-invoicing in the UK. This will give software developers and taxpayers an indication of the direction of travel for our work towards the e-invoicing mandate in 2029, enabling them to begin planning their product development and rollout of e-invoicing.
