Rwanda TIN Checker
Check a Rwandan Taxpayer Identification Number (inomero iranga usora) and confirm whether official records recognise it.
What is a Rwanda TIN?
A TIN (Taxpayer Identification Number; inomero iranga usora; numéro d’identification fiscale) is the unique number the Rwanda Revenue Authority issues to each taxpayer and uses in all its dealings with them. Businesses receive it on registration with the Rwanda Development Board. It has 9 digits — for example 100423455 for Bank of Africa Rwanda.
Rwanda TIN format
Nine digits, numbers only.
Example: 100423455 (Bank of Africa Rwanda Plc, as printed on the bank’s own documents).
- Placeholders: 999999999 and 000000000 are RRA’s “no TIN” placeholders, not TINs.
- No check digit: RRA publishes no check-digit rule, so the 9-digit shape alone can’t prove a TIN was issued.
- Not a TIN: A national ID number, a buyer’s phone number or an EBM purchase code is a different number.
- What we return: Whether official records recognise the TIN. No name or address is returned.
How to check a Rwanda TIN
- 1 Find the TIN on the supplier’s EBM invoice or RDB registration certificate (where it is the “company code”).
- 2 Enter the 9 digits above. Spaces and hyphens are removed automatically.
- 3 If the number isn’t confirmed, ask the supplier to check it before you rely on it.
- 4 For recent Rwandan tax and EBM changes, see our Rwanda tax updates.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I check a Rwanda TIN?
Enter the 9-digit TIN in the checker on this page. It confirms whether official records recognise the number, but it does not return the holder’s name. If the number isn’t confirmed, ask the supplier for its RDB registration certificate, where a company’s TIN appears as the “company code”.
What does a Rwanda TIN look like?
Nine digits, numbers only — for example 100423455, the TIN Bank of Africa Rwanda Plc prints on its own documents. RRA uses 999999999 and nine zeros as placeholders when a buyer has no TIN, so those are never real TINs.
Is the Rwanda VAT number the same as the TIN?
Rwanda has no separate VAT number. A business registers for VAT under the TIN it already holds — RRA allows only one TIN per business — so the 9-digit TIN is the number to check.
Who issues the Rwanda TIN?
The Rwanda Revenue Authority (RRA). Businesses receive it when they register with the Rwanda Development Board (or the Rwanda Cooperatives Agency for cooperatives); RRA registers non-business taxpayers directly. The TIN is free.
Must a Rwandan invoice show the TIN?
Yes. Under Ministerial Order No 006/26/10/TC, every electronic (EBM) invoice shows the seller’s TIN and a buyer identification number: a TIN, a phone number or nine zeros. RRA’s Tax Handbook tells sellers to enter the buyer’s TIN for sales to businesses.
What is a Rwanda Tax Clearance Certificate?
An RRA document certifying that a taxpayer has met all its tax obligations. It is issued online for a fee of FRW 5,000 and is valid for three months. This checker validates the TIN, not the certificate.
