ERPTax enginePOSCustomsInvoicing
Gibraltar's goods Transaction Tax has applied since 15 July 2026. The Treaty on Gibraltar and the European Union Act 2026 (Act 2026-11, assent 1 April 2026) contains the tax in Chapter 4 (ss.98-102) and Schedule 2. Those provisions were not among the sections commenced on 1 April 2026 (ss.1-10, 13-15, 17-26) or by LN.2026/129 (25 June 2026); Chief Minister's Notice LN.2026/148 (dated 7 July 2026) appointed 15 July 2026 for all remaining provisions. Schedule 2 sets the rate at 15% in year 1, 16% in year 2, then 17% or the lowest standard rate applied by any EU Member State, with 5% reduced and super-reduced rates for listed goods. This supersedes gi-transaction-tax-goods-2026, which reported the tax as in force since 10 April 2026.
What changed in detail
Gibraltar’s goods Transaction Tax has applied since 15 July 2026.
The Treaty on Gibraltar and the European Union Act 2026 (Act 2026-11, assent 1 April 2026) contains the tax in Chapter 4 (sections 98 to 102) and Schedule 2. Those provisions were not among the sections commenced on 1 April 2026 (sections 1-10, 13-15 and 17-26) or by LN.2026/129 of 25 June 2026. Chief Minister’s Notice LN.2026/148, dated 7 July 2026, appointed 15 July 2026 as the day all remaining provisions come into operation.
Schedule 2 sets the rate at 15% in year 1, 16% in year 2, then 17% or the lowest standard rate applied by any EU Member State, with 5% reduced and super-reduced rates for listed goods.
The earlier record on the goods Transaction Tax reported it as in force since 10 April 2026. That date was wrong.
What it means
Anyone who relied on 10 April 2026 as the start date should recheck. Importers and producers should confirm that Transaction Tax was charged from 15 July 2026 rather than 10 April.
Proof
the Chief Minister has appointed the 15th July 2026 as the day the remaining provisions of the Act, that have not yet come into operation, come into operation.
