The North Carolina Department of Revenue announced on 24 June 2026 that Mecklenburg County will impose an additional 1% local sales and use tax from 1 July 2026, raising the combined state-and-local rate in the county from 7.25% to 8.25%. The levy follows a voter referendum on 4 November 2025 and funds public transit.
