Bolivia NIT Format Checker
Check that a Bolivian NIT (Número de Identificación Tributaria) has a valid format.
What is a Bolivian NIT?
The NIT (Número de Identificación Tributaria) is Bolivia’s tax identification number, issued by the Servicio de Impuestos Nacionales (SIN). Companies get a SIN-generated number ending in the code 02 and one digit — for example 1020229024 for Cervecería Boliviana Nacional — and individuals their CI number plus 01 and one digit.
Bolivian NIT format (companies)
A base number, a 2-digit type code and a final digit; no fixed length.
by the SIN
(02 company)
(random)
Example: 1020229024 (Cervecería Boliviana Nacional S.A., as printed in its annual report and in the SEPREC register).
- Type codes: 01 individuals and sole proprietors (CI-based), 02 companies, 04 foreign residents.
- Digits only: No separators; the SIN’s forms take numbers only.
- No check digit: The last digit is random, so only the register can confirm a NIT.
- Format check only: This checker accepts 7 to 10 digits and does not query the SIN. An individual’s NIT is their CI number plus three digits, so some real NITs are longer than 10 digits.
How to check a Bolivian NIT

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the format of a Bolivian NIT?
There is no fixed length. An individual’s NIT is their cédula de identidad (CI) number, the code 01 and one final digit; a company’s is a number generated by the SIN, the code 02 and one final digit. Company NITs are typically 9 or 10 digits — for example 1020229024 for Cervecería Boliviana Nacional S.A. — and the SIN’s e-invoice schema allows up to 13.
Are the NIT and the matrícula de comercio the same number?
Yes, for companies and sole-proprietor businesses (empresas unipersonales) registered with SEPREC: the NIT is the same number as the matrícula de comercio. SEPREC keeps older FUNDEMPRESA matrícula numbers, such as 00012783, as the “matrícula anterior”.
How do I check if a Bolivian NIT is active?
The Servicio de Impuestos Nacionales (SIN) offers an online “Consulta del Estado del NIT” (Servicios al Ciudadano on impuestos.gob.bo) that shows a taxpayer’s name and status. Our checker confirms the NIT’s format only.
Does a Bolivian NIT have a check digit?
No. The SIN describes the last digit as a random number, so a NIT cannot be validated arithmetically — only the SIN’s register can confirm it.
What do NIT 0, 99001, 99002 and 99003 mean on an invoice?
They are placeholders, not taxpayer NITs: 0 for an unidentified buyer on invoices of up to Bs1,000; 99001 for buyers not obliged to register, such as non-resident foreigners; 99002 for SIN control purchases; and 99003 for the daily total of sales under Bs5.
Who must register for a NIT?
Every individual, undivided estate, sole-proprietor business and Bolivian or foreign legal person that carries out taxable activity in Bolivia or is liable for national taxes must register in the SIN’s Registro Nacional de Contribuyentes (RNC); only joint ventures (asociaciones accidentales) are exempt, because their member companies register.
