What is a Dominican RNC?
The RNC (Registro Nacional de Contribuyentes) number identifies a taxpayer to the Dominican Republic’s tax authority, the DGII. Companies get a 9-digit RNC — for example 101136792 for Banco Múltiple BHD — while individuals use their 11-digit cédula de identidad. It must appear on invoices and e-CF electronic invoices.

- 9 or 11 digits: 9 for companies and foreigners without a cédula; 11 for individuals (cédula).
- Digits only: Enter the number without hyphens.
- Status: A found RNC shows its DGII status — Activo, Suspendido, Cese Temporal or Dado de Baja. Only Activo means the taxpayer is enabled for tax purposes.
- Name: The checker returns the trade name when the taxpayer has one, not always the legal name.
How to check a Dominican RNC

How many digits does an RNC have?
Companies, and foreigners without a cédula, receive a 9-digit RNC from the DGII — for example 101136792 for Banco Múltiple BHD, printed as 1-01-13679-2. Individuals use their 11-digit cédula de identidad as their RNC.
What does the first digit of an RNC mean?
In the DGII’s structure, 1 is a for-profit legal person, 4 a non-profit legal person and 5 a foreign individual. In practice, public bodies also have RNCs starting with 4.
What do Activo, Suspendido, Cese Temporal and Dado de Baja mean?
Activo means the taxpayer is enabled for tax purposes. Suspendido applies after 18 months in a row without filing or paying taxes; Cese Temporal is a temporary stop of up to three years; Dado de Baja is a permanent closure. Our checker shows the RNC as found in all these cases, so read the status.
Is the RNC the same as the cédula for individuals?
Yes. The DGII uses an individual’s 11-digit cédula de identidad as their RNC. Cédulas are personal data, so this page uses company examples only.
Does an RNC have a check digit?
The DGII does not publish one. A widely used weighted mod-11 check matches almost every RNC in the DGII’s list, but a few genuine RNCs fail it, so only the register can confirm a number.
Is the RNC required on electronic invoices (e-CF)?
Yes. The RNC must appear on invoices, and for an e-CF the DGII checks that the issuer’s RNC is active and authorised as an electronic issuer. The buyer’s RNC is mandatory on a crédito fiscal e-CF, and on a consumer e-CF of DOP 250,000 or more.
