Liberia TIN Format Checker
Check that a Liberian Taxpayer Identification Number has the LRA’s format: nine digits beginning with 5.
What is a Liberian TIN?
A Liberian TIN (Taxpayer Identification Number) is the number that identifies a taxpayer to the Liberia Revenue Authority. It has nine digits and begins with 5 — for example 500036301 for ArcelorMittal Liberia, as published by LEITI. Individuals get theirs from the LRA; companies get theirs when they register with the Liberia Business Registry.
Liberian TIN format
Nine digits, always starting with 5.
Example: 500036301 (ArcelorMittal Liberia Ltd, as printed in LEITI’s 12th, 15th and 16th reports).
- 9 digits: An 8- or 10-digit number is not a valid TIN — usually a dropped or extra digit, a slip that appears even in official reports.
- No check digit: The LRA publishes none, so the shape can be checked but not whether the number was issued.
- Not a TIN: The 17-digit GST number is a different number.
- Format check only: This checker confirms the LRA’s structure. Many TINs belong to individuals, so never enter or share another person’s TIN.

Frequently Asked Questions
What does a Liberian TIN look like?
Nine digits, starting with 5, with no letters or separators — the Liberia Revenue Authority (LRA) describes it as “a 9-digit number beginning with 5”. For example, ArcelorMittal Liberia’s TIN, as published by LEITI, is 500036301.
Who issues a company’s TIN: the LRA or the Business Registry?
Companies obtain their TIN from the Liberia Business Registry when they register the business. The LRA issues TINs to individuals.
Can I check a Liberian TIN with the LRA?
The LRA lists an online verification tool and a mobile app to “verify whether your TIN# is valid”. Our Liberia tax ID guide explains the official route. The checker on this page confirms the format.
Is my GST number the same as my TIN?
No. The GST number is a separate 17-digit identifier; the TIN has 9 digits.
Must the TIN appear on invoices?
Yes. The LRA’s Electronic Fiscal Devices Regulations require the TIN on invoices and receipts, debit and credit notes and other tax documents. A withholding agent that pays someone who has not supplied a TIN can also be fined.
Can a business hold more than one TIN, and does it cost anything?
No to both. Under section 53 of the Revenue Code a resident may not obtain more than one TIN, and no fee may be charged for obtaining one.
