What is a Ukrainian EDRPOU code?
The EDRPOU code (код ЄДРПОУ) is the 8-digit identification code of a Ukrainian legal entity, recorded in the Unified State Register of Enterprises and Organisations of Ukraine and used as the company’s tax number. It is assigned on registration and kept for life — for example 14360570 for JSC CB PrivatBank.

- Leading zeros: Keep them: older codes such as 00032129 start with zeros.
- Not the VAT number: A company’s 12-digit VAT number (ІПН) is a different number; its first 7 digits are the first 7 digits of the EDRPOU.
- Individuals: Sole proprietors use a 10-digit РНОКПП — personal data, so this page uses a company example only.
- Format check only: This checker tests the length and, for 8-digit codes, the check digit. It does not query Ukraine’s registers, so it cannot confirm that a company exists or is active.
How to check a Ukrainian EDRPOU code
- 1 Find the EDRPOU code (ЄДРПОУ) in the supplier’s contract or payment details.
- 2 Enter the 8 digits above, keeping any leading zeros. The checker tests the check digit.
- 3 A failed check digit almost always means a typo — ask the supplier to confirm the code.
- 4 If you were given a 12-digit number, it is probably the company’s VAT number: its first 7 digits are the first 7 digits of the EDRPOU code. (A sole proprietor’s 12-digit VAT number starts with their 10-digit РНОКПП instead.)

What is an EDRPOU code and how many digits does it have?
The 8-digit identification code of a Ukrainian legal entity or registered branch, used as its tax number. The entity keeps it for its whole existence, and the last digit is a check digit. Leading zeros are part of the code.
Is the EDRPOU code the same as the VAT number (ІПН)?
No. A company’s VAT number has 12 digits: the first 7 digits of its EDRPOU code, a 2-digit region code, a 2-digit district code and a check digit. PrivatBank’s EDRPOU 14360570 becomes VAT number 143605704021.
Do sole proprietors (ФОП) have an EDRPOU code?
No. A sole proprietor is identified by their 10-digit individual taxpayer number (РНОКПП, often called ІПН or “код ДРФО”) — personal data, which this page never shows.
Who assigns the EDRPOU code?
The state registrar assigns it when a legal entity is registered, from a reserve of codes kept by the State Statistics Service, which maintains the ЄДРПОУ register. Since 3 September 2024 branches of foreign companies receive their code the same way.
Does a valid EDRPOU code mean the company is a VAT payer?
No. VAT registration is separate, and mandatory only above UAH 1,000,000 of taxable supplies in 12 months, so many companies with an EDRPOU code are not VAT payers.
How is the EDRPOU check digit calculated?
It is not officially published. The widely used method multiplies the first seven digits by 1 to 7 (or 7, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 for codes starting with 3, 4 or 5) and takes the remainder after dividing by 11; if that is 10, it repeats with each weight increased by 2 and uses the last digit of the new remainder. Every bank code in the National Bank of Ukraine’s register passes it.
