Russia INN Checker
Проверка ИНН: check a Russian INN’s check digit and look it up in the company register (ЕГРЮЛ), with the registered name after sign-up.
What is a Russian INN?
The INN (идентификационный номер налогоплательщика) is Russia’s taxpayer identification number, assigned by the Federal Tax Service. It is one number for all taxes, used throughout Russia and never reassigned. Organisations have 10 digits — for example 7736207543 for ООО «ЯНДЕКС» — and individuals 12 digits.
Russian INN format (organisations)
Where it was assigned, a register number and a check digit — 10 digits.
(pre-2026 INNs; 77 = Moscow)
number
digit
Example: 7736207543 (ООО «ЯНДЕКС», as listed on yandex.ru and in the company register).
- Individuals: 12 digits with two check digits. They are personal data, so this page uses a company example only.
- Input: Digits only. An “ИНН/КПП” label and a trailing /KPP are removed; the KPP and OGRN can’t be checked here.
- Not the current office: The first digits show where the INN was assigned, not the company’s tax office today: ООО «ЯНДЕКС» has INN 7736… but KPP 7704…
- What we check: The check digit, then the company register (ЕГРЮЛ). Individuals’ INNs and foreign organisations’ 9909 INNs are not in that register: if the check digit passes, a “not registered” result for them does not mean the INN is invalid.
How to check a Russian INN
- 1 Find the INN on the supplier’s счёт-фактура (VAT invoice), which must show the INN of both seller and buyer.
- 2 Enter it above. The checker tests the check digit and looks up a company INN in the company register.
- 3 Check that the status is active and that the name (shown in full after sign-up) matches your supplier.

Frequently Asked Questions
How many digits does a Russian INN have? (Сколько цифр в ИНН?)
Organisations, including foreign ones, have a 10-digit INN; individuals and sole traders have 12 digits. The last digit (organisations) or last two digits (individuals) are check digits.
What is the difference between the INN, KPP and OGRN?
The INN is the tax number: one per taxpayer, and it does not change when the address or name changes. The KPP is a 9-character code given only to organisations for each tax registration, so a company can have several. The OGRN (13 digits) or OGRNIP (15 digits) is the number in the company or sole-trader register.
Did the INN format change in 2026?
Only the meaning of the first four digits, for INNs assigned to Russian organisations and individuals from 1 January 2026: digits 1–2 are now the code of the regional tax directorate and digits 3–4 an index set by the Federal Tax Service. The length, the check-digit method and existing INNs are unchanged.
Why does a foreign company’s INN start with 9909?
Since 1 January 2005, foreign organisations registered with the Federal Tax Service receive an INN that starts with 9909, followed by a 5-digit foreign-organisation code and a check digit.
How is the INN check digit calculated?
The Federal Tax Service’s INN order says only that it is calculated “by an algorithm defined by the Federal Tax Service”, without setting it out. The widely used method — weights 2, 4, 10, 3, 5, 9, 4, 6, 8, then modulo 11 and modulo 10 (12-digit INNs have two such steps) — matches every live INN we tested; it is not an official specification.
Is “7736207543/770401001” a 20-digit INN?
No. It is the INN and KPP written with a slash, as on many invoices. The Federal Tax Service confirms they remain separate details. Enter just the first 10 digits, or paste both and our checker keeps the INN.
