Québec QST Number Checker

Check a Québec QST (TVQ) registration number against Revenu Québec records — with the registered business name and status.

What is a QST number?

A QST number is the registration number Revenu Québec gives a business registered for the Québec Sales Tax: 10 digits, the letters TQ and a 4-digit reference — for example 1223438098TQ0001 for Avery Products Corporation. It is separate from the federal GST/HST number issued by the Canada Revenue Agency.

Québec QST number format

Ten digits, TQ for the general system, and a four-digit reference.

Example: 1223438098TQ0001 (Avery Products Corporation; avery.com prints the first ten digits, 1223438098).

  • Enter it in full: Include TQ and the 4-digit reference. Ten digits on their own are treated as an NEQ, not a QST number.
  • NR numbers: Specified-system numbers (NR + 8 digits) for suppliers outside Québec are not yet supported by this checker.
  • Check digit: Revenu Québec does not publish a check-digit rule.
  • Name and status: A valid result shows the registered business name and registration status from Revenu Québec records.

How to check a QST number

  1. 1 Find the QST (TVQ) number on the supplier’s invoice — invoices of $100 or more must show it.
  2. 2 Enter the full number, with TQ and the 4-digit reference. The checker confirms it with Revenu Québec records.
  3. 3 Compare the returned business name and status with your supplier.
  4. 4 Want to use Revenu Québec’s own service? Our QST verification guide walks through it.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I check a Québec QST number? (Comment vérifier un numéro de TVQ?)

Enter the full number — 10 digits, TQ and 4 digits — in the checker on this page: it confirms the registration with Revenu Québec and shows the business name and status. For Revenu Québec’s own service, see our QST verification guide.

What is the QST number format?

Businesses registered under the general QST system have 10 digits, the letters TQ and 4 digits, for example 1223438098TQ0001. Suppliers outside Québec registered under the specified system have NR followed by 8 digits.

What do TQ and NR mean?

TQ means the business is registered under the general QST system. NR marks the specified system for suppliers outside Québec, such as digital-service providers.

Do I need both GST and QST numbers on an invoice?

For sales of $100 or more, yes: the supplier’s GST and QST registration numbers must appear for the buyer to claim input tax credits and refunds. Below $100 they are not required.

Is a QST number the same as the NEQ?

No. The NEQ (Québec enterprise number) comes from the Registraire des entreprises and identifies the business in the enterprise register. The QST number is the tax registration from Revenu Québec.

Does GST/HST registration cover QST?

No. QST registration is separate, made with Revenu Québec, and comes with its own number. Check a GST/HST Business Number.
