Czech DIČ Checker
Check a Czech daňové identifikační číslo (DIČ) for correct format and confirm it in real time — with the registered company name and address.
What is a Czech DIČ?
The DIČ (daňové identifikační číslo) is the Czech tax identification number, assigned by the tax office when a person or business registers for a tax and also used as the VAT number: CZ followed by 8 to 10 digits. For a company it is CZ plus its 8-digit IČO — for example CZ45274649 for ČEZ, a. s.
Czech DIČ format
CZ and 8, 9 or 10 digits, depending on who holds it.
(companies)
Example: CZ45274649 (ČEZ, a. s., Praha; IČO 45274649).
- Companies: CZ + the 8-digit IČO. In practice the last digit is a mod-11 check digit (weights 8 to 2); the formula is not set out in law. The sample CZ12345678 fails it.
- Individuals: CZ + the 9- or 10-digit birth number (rodné číslo), which encodes date of birth — treat it as personal data.
- Tax-office identifier: CZ + 9 digits starting with 6, assigned by the tax office when the taxpayer has no IČO or birth number, or when an individual asks for one.
- Name and address: A valid result shows the registered name and address, so you can see who the number belongs to.
How to check a Czech DIČ
- 1 Find the DIČ on the company’s invoice or website — a Czech VAT invoice shows the supplier’s DIČ and, if the customer has one, the customer’s DIČ.
- 2 Enter it above, with or without CZ. You can also enter a company’s 8-digit IČO.
- 3 Compare the returned name and address with your supplier or customer.
- 4 Need VAT registration status or unreliable-payer details? Our Czech DIČ verification guide covers the official checks step by step.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I check a Czech DIČ? (Jak ověřit DIČ?)
Enter it in the checker on this page, with or without CZ: it validates the format and confirms the number, showing the registered name and address. For the official Czech VAT register and VIES routes, see our Czech DIČ verification guide.
What is the difference between IČO and DIČ?
The IČO is the 8-digit identification number of a business or legal person. The DIČ is the tax identification number the tax office assigns only when the business registers for a tax. A company’s DIČ is usually CZ plus its IČO — ČEZ’s IČO 45274649 gives DIČ CZ45274649 — but many businesses have an IČO and no DIČ.
What is the Czech DIČ format?
CZ followed by 8, 9 or 10 digits: 8 digits for a company (its IČO), 9 or 10 digits for an individual (normally their birth number), or 9 digits starting with 6 for an identifier assigned by the tax office.
Is the Czech DIČ the same as the VAT number?
Yes — Czechia has no separate VAT number; the DIČ is used for VAT. But holding a DIČ does not prove VAT registration, because it may exist only for income tax. A VAT-registered business is either a VAT payer (plátce DPH) or an identified person (identifikovaná osoba).
Why does VIES say a Czech DIČ is invalid?
VIES only confirms numbers registered for VAT. A DIČ held only for income tax, a cancelled DIČ, or one replaced by a new identifier shows as invalid.
What is an unreliable VAT payer (nespolehlivý plátce)?
A VAT payer the tax office has declared unreliable for seriously breaching its tax-administration duties. The status is published in the VAT register, and a VAT-registered buyer who receives a supply from a published unreliable payer is presumed to have known the VAT would go unpaid and can be held liable as guarantor for it.
