Slovak VAT Number Checker
Check a Slovak identifikačné číslo pre DPH (IČ DPH) for correct format and confirm in real time that it is valid for VAT — with the registered name and address.
What is a Slovak IČ DPH?
The IČ DPH (identifikačné číslo pre daň z pridanej hodnoty) is Slovakia’s VAT number, assigned by the Financial Administration on VAT registration: SK followed by 10 digits — for example SK2020261353 for Slovenské elektrárne, a.s. It is different from the 10-digit DIČ tax number and the 8-digit IČO.
Slovak IČ DPH format
SK and ten digits.
(often the DIČ)
Example: SK2020261353 (Slovenské elektrárne, a.s., Bratislava; DIČ 2020261353, IČO 35829052).
- 12 characters: SK + 10 digits, no spaces or letters.
- Divisible by 11: No official check digit is published, but every Slovak VAT number in the official register is divisible by 11 — a number that is not is almost certainly mistyped. The sample SK1234567890 fails.
- Not an IČ DPH: An 8-digit IČO or a DIČ without SK is a different identifier.
- Name and address: Slovakia releases the registered name and address through VIES, so a valid result shows who the number belongs to.
How to check a Slovak IČ DPH
- 1 Find the IČ DPH on the company’s invoice or website — not the IČO or DIČ printed next to it.
- 2 Enter it above, with or without SK. The checker confirms whether the number is valid for VAT.
- 3 Compare the returned name and address with your supplier or customer.
- 4 Want to run the official checks yourself? Our EU VAT verification guide walks through them step by step.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I check a Slovak VAT number? (Ako overiť IČ DPH?)
Enter it in the checker on this page, with or without SK: it confirms whether the number is valid for VAT and shows the registered name and address. For the official routes, see our EU VAT verification guide.
What is the difference between DIČ and IČ DPH?
The DIČ is the 10-digit tax identification number every registered tax subject receives. The IČ DPH is the VAT number — SK plus 10 digits — assigned only on VAT registration. Often the digits match the company’s DIČ — Slovenské elektrárne has DIČ 2020261353 and IČ DPH SK2020261353 — while VAT-group members use the group’s number instead.
Which number goes on a Slovak invoice?
A full VAT invoice must show the supplier’s IČ DPH and, where the customer has one, the IČ DPH under which it received the supply; simplified invoices (up to €100, or e-kasa receipts) can omit the customer’s details. A member of a VAT group invoices under the group’s IČ DPH.
Why does VIES say “Group registration”?
The number belongs to a Slovak VAT group. The group has one IČ DPH for all its members, and VIES does not show which members belong to it.
Does every valid IČ DPH holder charge VAT?
No. A business registered only under section 7 or 7a of the VAT Act — for intra-EU acquisitions or cross-border services — receives an IČ DPH that is valid in VIES, but it is not a VAT payer. About a quarter of Slovak IČ DPH numbers are of this kind.
Is the IČO the same as the IČ DPH?
No. The IČO is an 8-digit organisation identification number from the register of legal persons, assigned by the Ministry of the Interior since 1 June 2026. It is not a tax number.
