Indonesia NPWP Format Checker

Check that an Indonesian NPWP has the correct format — the 16-digit form or the legacy 15-digit form.

What is an NPWP?

The NPWP (Nomor Pokok Wajib Pajak) is Indonesia’s taxpayer identification number, issued by the Directorate General of Taxes. It now has 16 digits — fully in Coretax since 1 January 2025: resident individuals use their NIK, and companies a 16-digit NPWP — entities registered before 2024 add a leading 0 to their old 15-digit number, as in 0023410798054000.

Indonesian NPWP format

16 digits; for older entities, 0 plus the legacy 15-digit number.

Example: 0023410798054000 (an investment fund, as listed on bca.co.id). Legacy form: 02.341.079.8-054.000.

  • 16 digits: Written without dots or hyphens.
  • Legacy 15 digits: The dotted XX.XXX.XXX.X-XXX.XXX form is the pre-2025 number; the checker accepts it too.
  • NIK: For resident individuals the NPWP is their NIK, which is personal data — this page uses company examples only.
  • Format check only: There is no public DJP search, so this checker confirms the format only. A 22-digit NITKU is a location number, not an NPWP.

How to check an Indonesian NPWP

  1. 1 Find the NPWP on the supplier’s tax invoice (faktur pajak) or registration documents.
  2. 2 Enter it above, with or without dots. The checker confirms it has a valid 15- or 16-digit format.
  3. 3 To confirm registration, ask the supplier for its NPWP registration certificate, or use a licensed tax-application provider.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I check an Indonesian NPWP? (Bagaimana cara cek NPWP?)

The Directorate General of Taxes (DJP) has no public search for other taxpayers’ NPWPs. Its validation service is open only to parties with a DJP agreement or through licensed tax-application providers. Our checker confirms the number’s format only.

What is the 16-digit NPWP?

Since 14 July 2022, Indonesian resident individuals use their 16-digit NIK as their NPWP, while companies, government bodies and non-residents use a 16-digit NPWP. Entities registered before 2024 received a leading 0 in front of their old 15-digit number.

Is a 15-digit NPWP still valid?

Since 1 January 2025 DJP’s Coretax system uses the 16-digit NPWP. For an entity, add a leading 0 to its old 15-digit number — converting a number does not prove it is registered.

What is a NITKU?

A 22-digit business-location number: the 16-digit NPWP followed by a 6-digit sequence, with 000000 for the head office. It identifies a place of business, not a separate taxpayer.

Should I write the NPWP with dots and dashes?

No. The 16-digit NPWP is written without dots or hyphens. The dotted style XX.XXX.XXX.X-XXX.XXX belongs to the legacy 15-digit number.

Does an NPWP have a check digit?

DJP does not publish one, so only DJP can confirm a registration.
