What changed in detail
The Minnesota Department of Revenue’s Local Tax General Notices (last updated 21 July 2026) state that the 0.5% Albert Lea and the 0.5% Blackduck local sales and use taxes end on 30 September 2026.
From 1 October 2026 the general 6.875% rate plus any other local taxes applies in those cities. There is no state-level rate change.
What it means
This is a rate decrease, so the risk is over-collection: sellers who do not update their systems after 30 September 2026 would charge customers tax that is no longer owed. Check whether any other local taxes still apply in each city before changing the rate.
Proof
Starting October 1, 2026, the 0.5% Albert Lea sales and use tax will no longer apply within the city of Albert Lea.
