What is an Isle of Man company number?
An Isle of Man company number is the number the Isle of Man Companies Registry gives every company and other entity on its registers. It is six digits followed by a letter that shows the register — for example 004685V for Entain plc, a 2006 Act company. Numbers run in sequence on each register and have no check digit.
Isle of Man company number format
Six digits and a register letter.
(zero-padded)
(V = 2006 Act)
Example: 004685V (Entain plc, printed as “No. 4685V” on its website and listed as a live 2006 Act company on the register).
- Suffixes: C 1931 Act · V 2006 Act · F foreign · L LLC · M foundation · P limited partnership · B business name · I industrial society.
- Input: Leading zeros, spaces and case don’t matter: 4685V and 004685v find the same company.
- No check digit: The numbers are plain sequences, so only the register can confirm one.
- What you get: The registered name. The checker does not show whether the entity is live, dissolved or ceased, and a dissolved company is still found. If a correctly formatted number comes back unconfirmed, it was usually not found on the register.
How to check an Isle of Man company number
- 1 Find the company number on the company’s website, letters or contract. It may be printed without the leading zeros, like “No. 4685V”.
- 2 Enter it above, with or without the leading zeros. The checker looks it up in the Isle of Man Companies Registry.
- 3 Check that the registered name (shown in full after sign-up) matches the company you are dealing with.

Frequently Asked Questions
What do the letters at the end of an Isle of Man company number mean?
The letter shows which register the entity is on: C for a 1931 Act company, V for a 2006 Act company, F for a foreign company, L for a limited liability company, M for a foundation, P for a limited partnership, B for a business name and I for an industrial society.
Does a C number mean an older company?
No. Companies are still incorporated under both the 1931 and the 2006 Act — 124310C and 004685V were both incorporated in January 2010. A company that re-registers under the other Act gets a new number but keeps its original incorporation date.
Is the company number the same as the company’s tax reference number?
No. A company’s income tax reference number starts with the letter C followed by six digits (for example C222222), while the company number ends with a letter (for example 124310C).
Is an Isle of Man VAT number the same as the company number?
No. The Isle of Man shares a VAT area with the UK, and its VAT numbers are GB numbers beginning 00. Manx Technology Group, for example, is company 124310C and VAT number GB004925592. Check those with our UK VAT checker.
Why does a company print 4685V when the register shows 004685V?
The register pads the digits to six with leading zeros. Both forms refer to the same company, and our checker accepts either.
Are Isle of Man companies on UK Companies House?
No. The Isle of Man has its own Companies Registry, separate from UK Companies House. A Manx group that trades in the UK often does so through a separate UK company with its own Companies House number — Manx Technology Group, for example, lists 124310C for its Isle of Man company and SC609813 for a company incorporated in Scotland.
