What is a Lithuanian VAT number?

A Lithuanian VAT number (PVM mokėtojo kodas) is the code the State Tax Inspectorate (VMI) assigns when a business registers for VAT: LT followed by 9 or 12 digits — for example LT100004278519 for AB “Ignitis grupė”. It is a separate number from the 9-digit company code, not the company code with LT in front.

Lithuanian VAT number format

LT and 9 or 12 digits.

LT Country code
100004278519 9 or 12 digits
(assigned by VMI)

Example: LT100004278519 (AB “Ignitis grupė”, company code 301844044). 9-digit example: LT212154314 (Telia Lietuva).

  • 11 or 14 characters: LT plus 9 or 12 digits, without spaces. Both lengths are in use by companies.
  • Not LT + company code: Adding LT to the 9-digit company code does not give the VAT code — Telia’s company code 121215434 becomes LT212154314, not LT121215434.
  • Check digit: No check-digit rule for VAT codes is published in the VAT law or by VIES. The company code has an official mod-11 check digit.
  • Name only: Lithuania releases the registered name through VIES but not the address.

How to check a Lithuanian VAT number

  1. 1 Find the PVM code on the company’s invoice or website — make sure it is the VAT code, not the company code.
  2. 2 Enter it above, with or without LT. The checker validates the format, then confirms the number via VIES.
  3. 3 Compare the returned name with your supplier or customer.
  4. 4 Want to run the official checks yourself? Our EU VAT verification guide walks through them step by step.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the format of a Lithuanian VAT number?

LT followed by 9 or 12 digits — for example LT212154314 (Telia Lietuva) or LT100004278519 (AB “Ignitis grupė”). Both lengths are held by companies, so the length does not tell you whether the holder is a company or an individual.

Is the PVM code the same as the company code (įmonės kodas)?

No. The 9-digit company code (juridinio asmens kodas) is assigned by the Register of Legal Entities; the PVM code is a separate number the tax authority assigns on VAT registration. Telia Lietuva’s company code is 121215434, but its VAT code is LT212154314.

How do I check a Lithuanian VAT number? (PVM kodo patikrinimas)

Enter it in the checker on this page: it validates the format, then confirms the number via the EU VIES system and shows the registered name. For the official route, see our EU VAT verification guide.

Why is there no address for a Lithuanian VAT number?

Each EU country decides what VIES may display. Lithuania releases the registered name of a valid VAT number but not the address, so VIES shows the address as “N/A”.

Does every Lithuanian company have a VAT number?

No. A Lithuanian business whose domestic supplies did not exceed €45,000 in the previous calendar year, and are not expected to exceed it in the current year, does not have to register for VAT — so it can have a company code but no PVM code.

Does a Lithuanian VAT number have a check digit?

No check-digit rule for VAT codes is published in the VAT law or by the EU VIES system. The 9-digit company code does have an official mod-11 check digit, using the weights 1 to 8 on its first eight digits.
