Malta Company Number Checker
Look up a Maltese company’s C number in the business register and see the registered name, legal form and status.
What is a Malta company registration number?
A Malta company registration number (C number) is the number the Registrar of Companies at the Malta Business Registry gives a company, written as C and digits — for example C 22334 for GO p.l.c. The Companies Act requires it on the company’s letters, order forms and website. It is not the VAT number or the tax number.
Malta company number format
The letter C followed by digits.
number
Example: C 22334 (GO p.l.c., printed on its website next to its VAT number MT 1282-6209).
- Input: With or without the space, in upper or lower case. Type the C — digits alone are treated as a VAT or tax number and won’t find the company.
- No published check digit: A register lookup is the only real test.
- What we return: Registered name, legal form and status (e.g. Active or Struck Off), and the address where the register holds one.
- Not covered: Partnership, oversea company and SICAV numbers, and the 9-digit income-tax TIN.
How to check a Malta company number
- 1 Find the C number on the company’s letterhead, order form or website.
- 2 Enter it above, including the C. The checker looks it up in the business register.
- 3 Compare the returned name with the company you are dealing with, and check that the status is Active.
- 4 For the company’s VAT number, see our Malta tax ID guide.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is a Maltese C number?
It is the registration number a company receives from the Registrar of Companies, who leads the Malta Business Registry (MBR). It is written as C followed by digits — for example C 22334 for GO p.l.c.
Is the C number the same as the VAT number?
No. GO p.l.c. prints both on its website: company registration number C22334 and VAT number MT 1282-6209. The income-tax number (TIN) is a third, separate number. Check a Maltese VAT number.
Where do I find a company’s C number?
On its business letters, order forms and website: article 6 of the Companies Act requires a company to show its name, legal form, registered office and registration number there. It often appears in a website footer or privacy policy.
Can I search the Malta Business Registry without an account?
No. Since 1 August 2025 the MBR’s company search needs a free login (a CORP account, Malta e-ID, eIDAS or a non-EU login). The checker on this page needs no account.
What does “Struck Off” mean?
The company has been removed from the register. In limited cases a court can order it restored. Struck-off companies keep their C number, so always read the status — the checker flags them.
Can I check partnership, oversea company or SICAV numbers?
Not yet. Partnerships, branches of oversea companies and SICAVs carry other registration numbers, which this checker doesn’t cover. It checks C numbers only.
