Polish KRS Number Checker

Check that a Polish KRS number has the right format: 10 digits with leading zeros. This checker doesn’t confirm the entry in the register.

What is a Polish KRS number?

A KRS number is the 10-digit number under which an entity is entered in Poland’s National Court Register (Krajowy Rejestr Sądowy) — for example 0000000778 for LPP S.A. Companies, commercial partnerships, cooperatives, foundations, associations and branches of foreign companies have one; sole traders do not. It is not the NIP tax number or the REGON statistical number.

KRS number format

Ten digits, written with leading zeros.

0000000 Leading zeros
778 Register number

Example: 0000000778 (LPP S.A., printed as “NR KRS 0000000778” on its contact page).

  • 10 digits: Always type the leading zeros. A NIP never starts with 0, which is how this checker tells the two apart.
  • No published check digit: The official rules set only the length: 10 digits.
  • Format check only: This checker confirms the format, not that the number is in the register.
  • Not a KRS number: The 10-digit NIP (never starts with 0) and the 9- or 14-digit REGON.

How to check a Polish KRS number

  1. 1 Find the KRS number on the company’s letterhead, order or website, next to its NIP and registry court.
  2. 2 Enter all ten digits above. The checker confirms the 10-digit format.
  3. 3 To identify the company, also check its NIP, which this site can look up with the company name.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a KRS number? (Co to jest numer KRS?)

It is the number under which a company, commercial partnership, foundation, association or other registered entity is entered in Poland’s National Court Register (Krajowy Rejestr Sądowy), which the registry courts keep.

How many digits does a KRS number have? (Ile cyfr ma numer KRS?)

Ten, written with leading zeros — for example 0000000778 for LPP S.A. or 0000028860 for ORLEN S.A. Enter all ten digits, including the zeros.

What is the difference between KRS, NIP and REGON?

The KRS number identifies an entity in the court register, the NIP is its tax identification number, and REGON is its statistical number. A company usually has all three: LPP S.A. has KRS 0000000778 and NIP 583-10-14-898. Check a Polish NIP.

Does a sole trader have a KRS number? (Czy jednoosobowa działalność ma numer KRS?)

No. Sole traders, and the partners in a civil-law partnership (spółka cywilna), register in CEIDG instead. The KRS holds companies, commercial partnerships, cooperatives, foundations, associations and other registered entities.

Where do I find a company’s KRS number?

On its letters, orders and website: the Commercial Companies Code (for example art. 206 for limited liability companies) requires the registry court and the number under which the company is entered, together with its NIP.

Does a KRS number have a check digit?

No check digit is published: the official rules set only the length, 10 digits. So a format check can’t prove the entity exists. A company formed by transformation, merger or division gets a new KRS number.
