Serbia PIB Check Digit Validator

Provera PIB-a: check that a Serbian PIB (poreski identifikacioni broj) has 9 digits and a correct official check digit.

What is a Serbian PIB?

The PIB (poreski identifikacioni broj) is Serbia’s tax identification number, assigned by the Tax Administration (Poreska uprava) and kept for as long as the business exists. Companies and entrepreneurs have a 9-digit PIB — for example 109108438 for Srbijavoz a.d. Beograd. If the business is registered for VAT, the same PIB is its VAT number.

Serbian PIB format

A sequential registration number and one check digit — 9 digits.

10910843 Registration number
(from 10000001)
8 Check digit
(ISO 7064 MOD 11,10)

Example: 109108438 (Srbijavoz a.d. Beograd, as printed on its own website and listed in the Ministry of Finance’s public list of e-invoicing users).

  • Check digit: Officially ISO 7064 MOD 11,10 over the first 8 digits — the same method as Croatia’s OIB.
  • Input: Nine digits, with or without spaces; an RS prefix from an e-invoice is removed.
  • Personal PIBs: Individuals’ PIBs are personal data, so this page uses a company example only.
  • Format check only: This checker tests the length and the official check digit. It does not query the Tax Administration’s registers, so it does not show the name, VAT status or whether a PIB has been revoked.

How to check a Serbian PIB

  1. 1 Find the PIB on the supplier’s invoice or website — Serbian VAT invoices must show it.
  2. 2 Enter the 9 digits above. The checker tests the official check digit.
  3. 3 A failed check digit almost always means a typo — ask the supplier to confirm the number.
  4. 4 For the official Serbian registers, see our list of official tax ID lookups.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the format of a Serbian PIB?

Nine digits: an 8-digit registration number, issued in sequence from 10000001, and one check digit calculated under ISO 7064 MOD 11,10 — for example 109108438. A PIB never starts with 0.

Is the PIB the same as the Serbian VAT number?

Yes. Serbia issues no separate VAT number: a VAT payer uses its PIB, and a VAT invoice must show the PIB of the issuer and of a business recipient. In SEF e-invoices the VAT identifier is written with an RS prefix, such as RS109108438.

What is the difference between the PIB and the matični broj?

The PIB is the 9-digit tax number assigned by the Tax Administration. The matični broj is the business’s registration number, normally 8 digits for a company — Srbijavoz, for example, has PIB 109108438 and matični broj 21127124.

Does a valid PIB mean the business is registered for VAT?

No. VAT registration is a separate status on the same PIB: it is mandatory once turnover in the previous 12 months exceeds RSD 8,000,000, and optional below that.

Can a PIB be revoked?

Yes. The Tax Administration can temporarily revoke a PIB, for example when a business fails to report changes or its account has been blocked for more than a year. A correct check digit does not show whether a PIB is active.

Do individuals in Serbia have a PIB?

Entrepreneurs and non-resident individuals get a 9-digit PIB. For resident individuals who are not entrepreneurs, the PIB is their 13-digit personal number (JMBG), which this checker does not cover.
