What is a Bosnian JIB?
The JIB (identifikacioni broj, written PIB/JIB in the Indirect Taxation Authority’s rules) is the 13-digit identification number the entity tax administrations of Bosnia and Herzegovina give a business; for legal entities it starts with 4. Drop that 4 and you have the 12-digit number the Indirect Taxation Authority uses for VAT, excise and customs — for example JIB 4200211100005, PDV number 200211100005.

- Both forms: Enter the 13-digit JIB or the 12-digit PDV number; the checker looks both up as the 12-digit number.

How to check a Bosnian JIB or PDV number
- 1 Find the JIB or PDV number on the supplier’s invoice or letterhead — some, like BH Telecom, print both.
- 2 Enter either form above. The checker looks it up in the Indirect Taxation Authority’s taxpayer register.
- 3 Check that the status is active and that the name and address (shown in full after sign-up) match your supplier.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between the JIB and the PDV number?
The PDV (VAT) number is the 13-digit JIB with its leading 4 removed. The Indirect Taxation Authority (UIO) forms this 12-digit number when it enters a business in its register — BH Telecom’s JIB 4200211100005 becomes PDV number 200211100005.
Why does the UIO search not find a 13-digit JIB?
The Indirect Taxation Authority’s taxpayer database searches by the 12-digit number only, so drop the leading 4. Our checker does this for you and accepts either form.
Who issues the JIB?
The tax administration of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Republika Srpska or Brčko District issues the 13-digit JIB. The Indirect Taxation Authority derives the 12-digit indirect-tax number from it.
Does a valid PDV number mean the business is registered for VAT?
Not on its own. The Indirect Taxation Authority registers businesses for VAT, foreign trade, international forwarding or excise, and gives each of them a 12-digit number. Its register records separately whether a business is a VAT payer.
Does the JIB have a check digit?
No check-digit algorithm is officially published. In practice the last digit works as one: nearly all numbers in the Indirect Taxation Authority’s own published list of approved exporters pass a modulo-11 check with weights 7-6-5-4-3-2 — the same scheme as the personal JMBG.
What is the VAT registration threshold in Bosnia and Herzegovina?
