How to verify BIN Number in Bangladesh?
BIN verification on NBR website
BIN (Business Identification Number) search is available for free on the Bangladesh National Board of Revenue (NBR) website. You can access the BIN search here. This search lets you look up companies in Bangladesh and supports the BIN formats surfaced by the NBR portal.
How to verify a BIN number in Bangladesh
Step 1: Open the NBR BIN search page
Go to the NBR BIN lookup portal. This is the public search interface used to check whether a BIN record appears in the government database.
The current NBR interface separates 13 Digit BIN and eBIN lookups. On the public page, the 13-digit lookup shows a last update date of 13/10/2019, while the eBIN lookup shows 30/06/2019. If you need to check a legacy record, the NBR also maintains a separate old BIN search page. [1] [2]

Step 2: Enter the BIN and submit the search
Enter the BIN into the search box and run the lookup. Before searching, make sure you know whether the number is a 13-digit BIN, a 9-digit eBIN, or an older BIN record, because NBR splits those into different public lookup paths.
Example: 000921562-0101, 001038531-0203, 001328583-0407
Step 3: Review the returned registration details
A successful verification on the NBR lookup tool can return the following details:
- Name
- Trading Brand Name
- Old BIN:
15051004420 - e-TIN:
735753653839 - Address
- Issue Date
- Effective Date
- Type of Ownership: Private Limited
- Major Area of Economic Activity
- Tax Type: Registered for VAT
- Status: Active/Inactive
- Branch Status
- Tax Return Status

Frequently Asked Questions
Why does the NBR BIN search return "Not Found" even though the company is registered?
The NBR's fourteen-digit BIN search tool only holds data as of its last index update (October 2019 for 13-digit BINs). Companies that registered after that date, or whose records were migrated during the 9-digit to 13-digit transition, may not appear in the legacy lookup. If a search returns no result, try the alternative old-BIN search at nbr.gov.bd/old-bin-search/eng, or contact the relevant VAT Commissionerate directly. The primary, authoritative verification remains the VAT portal at vat.gov.bd. [1]
Which NBR search should I use for 13-digit, 9-digit, and old BIN records?
Use the search tab that matches the number format shown on your certificate or invoice. On NBR's public interfaces, 13 Digit BIN, eBIN, and Old BIN are exposed as separate search paths. That split matters because a record that fails in one dataset may still exist in another legacy lookup. If the number was issued under an older registration flow, check the matching legacy search before assuming the registration is invalid. [1] [2] [3]
Are 9-digit eBINs, 13-digit BINs, and old BINs all handled in the same search?
No. NBR's public tools treat them as separate search flows. The main public NBR interfaces still expose a 13 Digit BIN lookup and a 9 digit eBIN lookup, while other NBR service pages also expose an Old BIN search. In practice, that means a negative result may reflect the wrong search path rather than an invalid registration. For verification work, the first step is identifying which numbering scheme the document actually uses. [1] [2] [3]
What happens if my supplier's tax invoice (Mushak 6.3) does not include both buyer and seller BINs?
You cannot claim input VAT credit on that purchase. Under Bangladesh's VAT and Supplementary Duty Act 2012, a valid Mushak 6.3 invoice must contain the name, address, and BIN of both the buyer and the seller. Any invoice missing either BIN is non-compliant, and the buyer loses the right to deduct input tax on the transaction. Additionally, NBR can levy a penalty of BDT 10,000 for non-submission or irregular issuance of a tax invoice. Always verify a supplier's BIN on the NBR lookup tool before processing the invoice. [1] [2]
Does a foreign company or non-resident supplier need a BIN to do business in Bangladesh?
Yes. Foreign entities, including branch offices, liaison offices, and non-resident digital/service providers, must obtain VAT registration and receive a BIN before conducting any regulated activity in Bangladesh. A non-resident that lacks a physical establishment must appoint a locally registered VAT agent (using Form Mushak 3.4); the BIN is then issued in the name of the foreign principal. The appointed VAT agent and the foreign principal are jointly liable for VAT obligations. Failure to register before the first taxable supply, import, or tender participation is a non-compliance event regardless of company size. [1] [2]
What is the minimum turnover that triggers mandatory BIN registration, and has the threshold recently changed?
Current NBR guidance is not fully uniform across every public page, but the official VAT FAQ and compliance guide both place the key thresholds at BDT 3 million for turnover tax enlistment and BDT 5 million for VAT registration. The VAT FAQ says registration or enlistment must be completed within 15 days after the threshold is crossed, while the compliance guide states that turnover between BDT 3 million and BDT 5 million is subject to 3% turnover tax and turnover above BDT 5 million is subject to VAT. If you are close to the threshold, confirm the current treatment directly in the NBR VAT portal before issuing invoices or filing returns. [1] [2]
