How to verify TIN Number in Azerbaijan?
TIN verification on e-taxes website
TIN (VÖEN) search option is available for free on the Azerbaijan e-taxes website. You can access the TIN search here. This search allows you to search for companies as well as individuals. You also have an option to search by the name of the individual or the company in this tool. While searching by the company name, the name of the organizational legal form should not be written after the name of the institution and the name must be written in capital letters.
To verify an Azerbaijan TIN (VÖEN):
- Go to the e-taxes TIN lookup.
- Enter the 10-digit VÖEN (e.g.
9900071001) or the company name in CAPITAL LETTERS (without legal form suffix). - Submit — results appear immediately.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the VÖEN in Azerbaijan, and how is it structured?
The VÖEN (Vergi Ödəyicisinin Eyniləşdirmə Nömrəsi — Taxpayer Identification Number) is a 10-digit number assigned by the State Tax Service to all registered taxpayers: companies, sole entrepreneurs, and individuals. Azerbaijan uses the VÖEN as a single identifier for all tax purposes — there is no separate VAT number (VAT-registered entities use their VÖEN for VAT invoicing). Legal entity types: MMC (LLC), ASC (open JSC), QSC (closed JSC), SC (JSC). [1]
What is Azerbaijan's VAT rate and registration threshold?
Azerbaijan's standard VAT rate is 18% (as of 2024). Mandatory VAT registration threshold: AZN 200,000 annual taxable turnover. The VÖEN serves as the VAT identification number — no separate VAT number is issued. Exports are zero-rated. For B2B services from non-Azerbaijani suppliers, reverse charge applies — the Azerbaijani recipient accounts for VAT. [1]
The e-taxes portal requires company names in capital letters without legal form suffix — why?
The portal searches the registered trade name: (1) enter names in ALL CAPS; (2) omit the legal form suffix — search AZƏRENERJI not AZƏRENERJI ASC, search SOCAR not SOCAR SC. Legal forms to omit: MMC, ASC, QSC, SC. Branches of foreign companies may appear under the parent's name or the branch's Azerbaijan trade name. [1]
Does Azerbaijan use e-invoicing, and does the VÖEN appear on electronic invoices?
Yes. Azerbaijan implemented mandatory electronic invoicing (elektron qaimə-faktura) starting in 2014. All VAT-registered businesses must issue electronic VAT invoices through the State Tax Service's e-invoice portal (einvoice.taxes.gov.az). The VÖEN of both supplier and buyer must appear on the electronic invoice. Paper VAT invoices are not accepted for input tax credit claims. [1]
I cannot find my Azerbaijani supplier's VÖEN on the e-taxes portal — what should I do?
Possible causes: (1) Name format — ensure ALL CAPS without legal form suffix; (2) Number format — VÖENs are exactly 10 digits; don't omit leading zeros; (3) Branch entity — branches sometimes operate under the parent's VÖEN; (4) Deregistered — inactive entities may not appear in active searches; (5) Individual entrepreneur — try the individual (fiziki şəxs) search option. If unverifiable, request the supplier's State Tax Service registration certificate. [1]
What does the "Name of tax accounting authority" indicate in the VÖEN lookup result?
The "Name of tax accounting authority" (Vergi uçotu orqanının adı) identifies which regional State Tax Service office administers the taxpayer's account (Baku districts, Sumgait, Ganja, etc.). This is where the taxpayer's returns are filed and where correspondence should be directed. A mismatch between the stated business location and the registered tax authority could be worth clarifying.
